About us

About Us ~

Our kennel is made up of hound / AK husky cross sprint race sled dogs. We are based out of Fairbanks and race around the great state of Alaska. We are a world class kennel that takes the sport of dog mushing very seriously.

Both of us, Jennifer Probert-Erhart and Carl Erhart, are Athabascan Natives from interior Alaska. Carl grew up in Tanana and Jennifer in Tok/Tanacross. Our history in the sport goes back many generations. The Probert, Denny, Ehart and Woods families combined have countless hours and miles on the back of a dog sled and we are blessed to come from such a talanted, amazing and gifted group of people. The stories, advice and information that we get from our family is not only interesting but critical to the success of our kennel. Carrying on not only a family tradition, but a sport that was a way of life for our Athatbascan people is a great honor for both of us.

Currently we compete primarily in the limited class races but plan on running more open class races. Our dreams of running the "big ones" meaning the Open North American and the Rondy are getting closer and closer to being a reality. Our kids also compete in the junior races and our parents still play an active role in the kennel.

We invite you to follow along as we prepare the dogs for raceing, travel around the state to compete in the races and share the ups and downs of the wonderful, exciting sport of sprint dog mushing.

We are looking for sponsors to help with the cost of food, vet care and travel expenses. For more information about becoming a sponsor please contact us directly at prodogkennel@gmail.com

Thank you for taking your time to spend with us!

Race Updates

We started racing in the middle of December in Montana Creek - Su Valley. We have also traveled to Anchorage for one race as well. The cold temps and lack of snow in Fairbanks have posed challenges to our training and as a result we have noticed an impact on our performance. We have been traveling to train the dogs. This is critical but expensive. Brian spent some time in Tok where they have more snow and suprisingly it was warmer. The Tok training proved to be well worth it after the dogs performance this past weekend. In the 8 dog class we had almost a full 2 min lead over second place. This is a pretty big gap for a 10 mile race. It sure was nice to see the dogs feeling good again and back doing what they love to do. I had a smile from ear to ear the entire race.

Our next race is scheduled for February 6th and 7th - the Exxon in Anchorage. The following weekend will be the Raven Electric 10 dog race in Anchorage again. Then the Gold Run here in Fairbanks the weekend of the 20th & 21st. Then we have a choice the next weekend of The North Pole Championship, Chistochina Fun Days or the kids Fun Run or go check out the Rondy and drool, wish and analyze for the possible future. The first weekend in March also has a couple of options, The Junior North American or the Tanacross Race. March 12th, 13th and 14th we will be in Fairbanks for the Limited North American. The next weekend is the Grand Daddy - the Open North American (another race that I would love to run but probably not this year) then March 27th and 28th in Tok for the Race of Champions. The last race of the year for our kennel is the Tok Junior Race of Champions held April 3rd and 4th.
